E C Setting Industry Safety Standards -

Awarded NECA Contractor Safety Award

E C Company was recently announced as the 2009 NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) Contractor Safety award recipient for their implementation of innovative concepts and techniques to keep safety top-of-mind for all of their approximately 650 employees.

“This award congratulates a contractor’s contributions to furthering the industry’s safety program,” said Barry Moreland, NIETC Safety Director. “E C is this year’s example of how a contractor can package NECA/IBEW 48’s commitment to safety in original and interactive ways.”

E C implemented a Safety Leadership Team (SLT) this year to serve as the vehicle through which the company plans to achieve an injury free safety culture. Right now 75 managers participate in the SLT and in April this group will expand to include selected field supervisors. Members are responsible for acting as “champions” to help employees develop and accept the attitudes required to achieve an injury free environment.

The SLT provides new information and tools, implements programs like the company wide stretch and flex program where everyone including office staff and management participates daily, recognizes safe work sites, and executes promotional campaigns. One of these campaigns included a “Safe Work Guarantee” pledge card which guarantees employees the right to a safe work environment and encourages them to contact top management if unsafe practices are asked of them.

“E C is one of many NECA contractors who implement unique safety programs,” said Moreland. “The goal of this award is to encourage contractors to learn from one another’s best practices and bring the industry to even higher levels of performance.”
